A little bit of history

The Autumn Equinox.

What is the Autumn Equinox?

The Autumn Equinox, for some also known and celebrated as Mabon stems from the pre-christian religions and with this, specifically the Celts! It's the second of the 3 harvest festivals, the first one being Lughnasadh (celebrated on the 2nd of August this year and Samhain which is at the 31st of October and is also known as the Celtic New Year).

Myths about loss and renewal (for example; the story of the Greek Goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone) are at the heart of this time of the year, the balance between light and dark, life and death and the ongoing cycle of the seasons.

It represents a time of balance, where day and night are equal, serving moments of reflection on the abundance gathered throughout the year as well as the difficulties we've faced. It is a time to express gratitude, assessing personal and spiritual growth and preparing the journey inward as the nights grow longer while we head into the darker time of the year.

Mabon signifies the transition from the vitality of summer to the more inwardness of autumn. We celebrate this time together.
