The Fagervik Stonecircle is closed from October to March
A Stonecircle? Called Fagervik?
Inspired by Gjellberget, an iron age fortress with traces to even longer back in time, and my visits to Stonehenge and Avebury, I wanted to build a place of contemplation, land stewartship and celebration.
With the gorgeous view over Mjøsa, the sun always meeting the earth on this side of our land; this was the perfect spot for a circle.
Circles have played an important role for centuries, the seasons are cyclical, day and night are cyclical. Everything being connected.
A stonecircle is a wonderful physical display of what a circle means for the landscape, the animals and the people.
Our house is called Fagervik and so the Circle will bear the same name.
Why is it happening?
With the need for a celebratory space where one can tend to and hold fire in ceremony, it was a perfect place to build a monument for the generations after us.
The stonecircle is on private ground and is only open during celebrations and private events.
Where do the stones come from?
As the local Tangenbridge has been going through an expansion (2024-2025), some of the rocks that are there would no longer be returned to their old spot.
It was through the kindness of the local community these stones ended up at our circle.
The circle is not finished just yet and will expand over the coming years as it will grow and welcome all who wish to celebrate the passage of the seasons with us.
A labyrinth too?
Also facing Gjellberget, but towards the North West, lies the Fagervik Labyrinth with in it's center a rescue birch.
The birch is the first to awaken in spring and represents the infinite cycle of birth, death and rebirth.. It is also associated with the path of the mother, the healer and the midwife.
The labyrinth is a sacred space designed for introspection, remembrance, symbolising all the aspects of the Kami. The physical and the mental into a harmonious unity.
The Labyrinth is in use from Summersoltice to the Wintersolstice. We let the ground rest during Winter and Spring
